River City Jaguars Homeschool Soccer, Kentuckiana's longest-running homeschool soccer program, was established in 2004 to provide home-educated student-athletes from Southern Indiana, Greater Louisville, and surrounding areas the opportunity to participate in a competitive Christian soccer program. The Jaguars program is for ages 8-19 with teams for high school Girls (Varsity), high school Boys (Varsity & JV), U15 (Coed), and U12 (Coed). During the fall outdoor season, we compete against teams from local public schools, private schools, as well as homeschool clubs from Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. We provide a fun, safe, and competitive environment where players who are homeschooled can have a great soccer experience.
Our program is comprised mostly of Christian families. We welcome believers and nonbelievers to play with us. We utilize soccer as a vehicle to develop our core values of Christian character, effort, and teamwork in the lives of our players. It is our sincere desire to be a Christ-centered competitive soccer program and impact the development of our players in meaningful ways.
*River City Jaguars is a 501c3 volunteer-led organization.
We will honor God in all that we say and do. We respect our referees, coaches, other players, and parents.
We start strong and end strong on the pitch and in life. Our effort honors Christ, our team, our family, and our opponents.
We play with and for each other.
The River City Jaguars were founded in 2004 by Charlestown’s Jenny Stopher at a time when there was no fall soccer team for her home educated son Aaron to play on. Stopher used her experience as team manager at Southern Indiana United to get a squad of home-schoolers together through word of mouth and an e-mail network. With some online research, Jenny found a home school team in Lexington, Ky. (Bluegrass United), who became the Jaguars’ first and only opponents that year. “It was a rough first year, but I think God laid it on my heart to build a team for future years,” said Stopher. “The kids bonded and it brought them some consistency year to year. The consistency is something that really helped my son.”
Now in its 18th year, the River City Jaguars have built upon Stopher's dream and added teams for Girls Varsity, U12, and U15. In addition to many post-season achievements since 2004, the Jags have brought home 3 state championships in the last 4 years.
