FAQ

Do players need to be homechooled to play for the Jags?

Yes, players shall be homeschooled students, with the majority of their education managed by their parents/guardians.  This definition does not preclude parents from paying for private educational services as a minor supplement to their child’s education.

How long does the season run?

We currently only play in the fall and the season runs from July – October.

Do you have to be a Christian to play for the Jags?

No, but we do conclude our practices with Christian devotion and prayer and regularly pray before games. All players are required to be present and respectful during this time regardless of participation. All players and parents are required to agree to our code of conduct prior to playing for the Jags.

How do I register?

Connect with us by using our "Contact Us" form and we will send you information for registration and get you signed up for our team app.

What is the time commitment?

Our practices are on Tuesdays, & Thursdays from 6-8 p, Saturday 9-11a Practice times change in late September as it starts getting dark earlier. Players and parents will be notified when that change occurs. Games are usually scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays.

Where is practice?

Woehrle Field will be our home field for PRACTICE AND HOME GAMES.

Woehrle Field Map Link – 4200 Charlestown Pike, Jeffersonville, IN 47130

Is there a lot of travel required?

You should expect to travel every other weekend starting in August. We have a “home and home” arrangement with many teams that we play, and we travel to some 3-way events.  During the season, our travel games are usually in the Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Cincinnati areas. We do our best to schedule all Jags teams for the same away destination.

What ages can play with River City Jaguars?

  • U19 Girls and Boys Divisions I & II: 13-18 years old
  • U15 Division (Coed): 11-14 years old
  • U12 Division (Coed): 8-11 years old

*A player must not be older than 19 on the last day of the national tournament of the current season.

Is previous soccer experience necessary?

No. It is our desire that athletes of all skill levels can be part of a welcoming, safe, and challenging soccer experience.

My teenager is really good, what division will they play?

After our first two weeks of soccer, our coaches get together and make a decision about who will have the option to play for the Division I (Varsity) team, the Division II (JV) team, and if any of the players are needed as “dual roster” players for the other teams. Coaches will also decide if any U15-aged players will be joining the Division I or II teams as either full-time players or dual rostered. Parents are able to choose if whether or not they would like their child dual rostered.

Do you have to try out to make the team?

It is possible that players will complete evaluation exercises but tryouts are not required to be a part of the River City Jaguars.

Are players guaranteed playing time?

We are a competitive team, so there is no “equal playing time”. We do recognize that in order to be a good team, we need a deep bench, and in order for our bench to be good, they need experience. We strive to develop the whole team. Players will receive playing time, but it may not be “equal”.

Do players have to attend practices?

It is important that players attend practice. Consistent absences need to be pre-arranged by parents and approved by coaches.

Who do the Jags play against?

The River City Jags play teams from private schools, Christian schools, club teams, public schools, along with other homeschool teams. Our season is primarily composed of playing against Indiana Homeschool Soccer league teams.

Do we play any tournaments?

All of our teams play in the IHSL state tournament. Our U15 team plays in one additional regular-season tournament. U19 teams play one additional regular season tournament and conclude their season at the National Homeschool Soccer Championship.

How much does it cost to play for the Jags?

2022 Season Registration fees

  • U19 Girls and Boys Divisions: $300/$350
  • U15 Division (Coed): $300
  • U12 Division (Coed): $225

*Plus $60-80 uniform fee for all teams. Uniforms are replaced on a 2-year cycle.

What if we can’t afford the cost to be on the team?

We work hard to help players afford to play on the team. In cases of hardship, our board will review and can possibly offer a reduced fee.  In cases of extreme hardship, we may be able to waive fees. Please contact a board member or coach if your family is in need of financial assistance. There are usually carpool options available to games to help save on travel expenses.
