Do players need to be homechooled to play for the Jags?

Yes, players in our competitive youth basketball program shall be homeschooled students, with the majority of their education managed by their parents or guardians. This definition does not preclude parents from paying for private educational services as a minor supplement to their child’s education, ensuring they thrive in the River City Jaguars' program.

Do you have to be a Christian to play for the Jags?

No, we do conclude our competitive youth basketball practices with Christian devotion and prayer, and we regularly pray before games. All players are required to be present and respectful during this time, irrespective of their participation. Additionally, all players and parents in our homeschool basketball program must agree to our code of conduct prior to playing for the River City Jaguars.

What ages can play with River City Jaguars?

Boys in 6th-12th grades for the 2024-2025 school year can join the River City Jaguars' competitive youth basketball program tailored for homeschool athletes.

Where is practice?

Graceland Christian Church proudly supports the River City Jaguars, renowned for their competitive youth basketball, as well as offering a dynamic homeschool basketball program for aspiring young athletes.

Is there a lot of travel required?

While our competitive youth basketball teams may occasionally face opponents 1-1.5 hours away, most of our games are held within the Kentuckiana area, thanks to our dedicated homeschool basketball program and the River City Jaguars.

Do you have to tryout to make the team?

While players in the River City Jaguars may complete evaluation exercises, it's important to note that tryouts are not a requirement for participation in this competitive youth basketball and homeschool basketball program.

Are players guaranteed playing time?

As a competitive youth basketball team, the River City Jaguars prioritize skill development over equal playing time. We understand that for our team to excel, a deep bench is essential; to build that depth, our players need valuable experience. While each athlete in our homeschool basketball program will receive playing time, it might not be distributed equally as we focus on enhancing the overall performance of the entire team.

Who do the Jags play against?

The River City Jaguars compete in youth basketball against teams from private schools, Christian schools, club teams, public schools, and also participate in a homeschool basketball program that includes other homeschool teams.

What if we can't afford the costs to play with the Jags?

At River City Jaguars, we work hard to ensure that all players can afford to participate in our competitive youth basketball program. In cases of financial hardship, our board will review requests and may offer a reduced fee. For extreme hardship situations, we may be able to waive fees. If your family is in need of financial assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Do players have to attend practices?

For the success of the competitive youth basketball program, it is crucial that players attend practice. Any consistent absences should be pre-arranged by parents and approved by coaches, especially for those involved in the River City Jaguars homeschool basketball program.
